Have you ever thought your website in terms of reusability ? You would never actually want to write a post that would never be read again by people right ? Actually, whenever you are writing a new post you would really need to be thinking on why people would need to read it at a certain time.
For instance, think about the previous post i made about how to create your About webpage. One could spot that post, read that quite quickly at the first time but then actually want to create their about page. At that point they would remember that post and go back to the website in order to check the essay once more and remember the main points.
However, the whole reusability idea comes from the fact that you want people to come back and check your website every day if it is possible. Luckily for the webmasters there are some important things that you can do that will make your visitors stick to your website and come back often in order to check for updates. There are 5 very important techniques that if you use, you will certainly notice a big raise on the number of people coming back :
1. Build Anticipation Through “Episodes” Posts
Probably one of the best ideas to utilize in order to make people come back to your website is creating a series of posts that relate to each other. For instance, if you will be writing 7 posts this week, make it so that they relate to the same subject and divide your post ideas into seven separate categories. This way, you can create your first post this day and then promise that you will post the next one very soon (probably the next day). If the topic you are talking about is interested, people will be coming back to check for the new posts every day.
2. Utilize RSS Feeds and FeedBurner
Luckily, the RSS technology has really provided great services to the webmasters and visitors alike. Being the greatest tool in order to keep in touch with your updates, lots of your visitors are going to be using RSS. Therefore, you would really want to know more about how to configure your feed to work with feedburner, so that you really attract more visitors to sign up and check on your feeds often.
3. Utilize Email Subscriptions
Notifying your visitors about the updates of your website is a very imporant thing. It is vital for you to make them subscribe to your email updates so that they get a new mail each time you publish something new. This is a rather long going process and would need that you create a good traffic base first. However, should you manage to do so, you would really be seeing people coming back to check on the new stuff that you publish.
4. Use Social Media Like Twitter
As you probably already know, social media and quite even more importangly Twitter are a great way to drive new traffic to your website. Apart from that, social media are also a nice way to inform others about the updates of your website. The good thing with Twitter is that you can build a following of people that want to learn more about your update and therefore it will be easier for you to get them to come back.
5. Relate to Your Visitors
Don’t forget that behind every visitor of your website there exists a human personality. People like to be friends with others even if we are talking about online friendships. Therefore, you should really try to relate with each of your visitors as much as possible. Don’t try to play it like you are not being your real self though. Be who you are but be friendly to your readers. To illustrate, an interesting idea would be to reply to your visitors comments whenever this applies. This way people will think that you are really looking at what they have to say and would make it more likely that they stick with your website or blog.
Come back come back wherever you are .. Make them come back and establish a good traffic base that will gradually spread, because no website can actually prosper without having people that come back and check on the updates often.
