If you like to use the Gmail service for your mailing related tasks, you may have noticed that google provides a whole lot of tools that help people (and webmasters) accomplish various tasks with ease. For instance, there is Google Blogsearch which is a tool used by searchers to locate blogs of interest to them. Google Images is another fine weapon for any searcher’s arsenal, allowing for searches over images posted online. But, did you know about Google Calendar ?
If you have been a webmaster for quite some time, it is almost certain that you have at least thought of creating an online calendar, even once. Quite sensibly, to be sincere. Such calendars are a great way to keep track of certain events and inform your visitors about whatever you would like to let them know, just at the time you want to do it too.
There are hundreds of resources online of course. Since online calendars need some kind of database in order to store your calendar data, at most cases, you may have encountered websites that offer you free calendar code once you subscribe. While it is true that these calendars will work fine most times, it’s also certain that google’s calendar is probably the best choice you could be making.
Why Google Calendar ?
First of all, it’s totally free. Secondly, but also very importantly, Google is really credible, and you should know that it pays to be credible. Could you trust anyone more than google ? I really don’t think so and this is a reason that should really matter on your decision. Moreover, Google Calendar is very easy to setup and does not need any other registration other than your standard google mail.
How to Create Your Calendar ?
Creating your calendar with this service is very trivial. You just need to go to Google Calendar and just “create a calendar”. You can then enter some information about your calendar’s name, some comments and set your timezone preferences. As you can see, you can just click your calendar on a specific date and add the necessary information, event or message that you would like to appear for that date.
Once you enter your events, you can go to “Settings” and click on your new calendar name. At the new webpage that appears scroll down a bit until you see the section about inserting your calendar at your website. You can customize your calendar to be smaller, bigger, use different colors and more and once you are ready, the only thing that you need to do to appear it to your website is just add the provided html code in your website.
For a sample calendar I’ve created for this post, the calendar code and the real calendar presentation are both shown below :
<iframe src=”http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=yabebedoni%40gmail.com&ctz=Europe/Athens” style=”border: 0″ width=”500″ height=”300″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”></iframe>
You can now go about creating your own calendar and your own events ! Just give it a shot, i’m sure you will find it pretty useful.
