surgeonscutting 150x150 Who Else Wants a Better Blog ?Whether you are a new or seasoned blogger, it is important that you always take steps in order to enhance your blog in a number of ways. Of course, you should not have to make it perfect, but it pays to address that matter too once in a while, taking up the work that really matters at the appropriate time.

Making your blog better involves three major things :

1. Enhance its Appearance and Functionality

2. Write Content

3. Marketize

In terms of importance, it should be about 20% of importance for point 1 and equally 40% of importance for marketing and writing content. Making the appearance of your blog better, should not be your top priority but every now and then you need to pay some attention to it as well. Luckily, about 90% of the work involving that area could and should be done when first designing your blog.

1. Enhance its Appearance and Functionality

I’ve encountered quite a lot of webmasters that tend to make vast changes in their blog appearance. This is certainly not a good idea. It just confuzes your reader and makes them feel uncomfortable. You would not really want to change your visitor’s mind on the value of your that often because it could mean losing some of your casual readers. Instead, make small changes that will help you gain more visitors without losing the previous ones.

When first setting your blog always make sure to install important plugins, giving extra attention to search engine optimization ones. Moreover, if you have any trouble finding a nice theme that suits you, you may want to choose one of those 5 FREE Wordpress Themes, if you happen to use Wordpress.

2. Write Content

When in doubt whether you should marketize, write content or make changes to your blog, choose to create content. The first and most important thing that your visitors look for is valuable information. Of course, you need to market enough in order for the visitor to reach you, but your content serves as a marketing tool too and most probably is the best one you have at your disposal.

Always remember to write your content in a good manner, taking notice of the important copywriting techniques that help you better communicate your ideas with your readers. Blogs – and websites – become better as quality content rises more often. Do not underestimate that fact. You should really keep a nice balance between your fast task, which is content creation and the promotion of that content should follow organically.

On the quest to create better content, it would be really worthwhile to study keyword selection a bit. SEOBook is a great FREE tool that can help you select the best keywords that will bring you more traffic.

3. Marketize

An important marketing quote says that “marketing is the way to oblige the use of the product”. What good is any product if it can’t be seen by people who are insterested in it ? Once you create nice content, you would then need to pass it on to as many interested people as you can find. Always bear in mind that you do not need traffic, you need targetted traffic.

We have discussed many marketing tips in previous posts at website-creation-tips. In short, whatever establishes connection between you and your potential visitors is a good way to go. Social media like Facebook, Twitter and such are a great way to go. Connect with people, find out what they are interested in and elaborate in order to help them. Twitter is one great tool for such a job. You may be interested in reading 12 tips in order to get more traffic for your website using Twitter.

  1. I don’t really see how “it could mean losing some of your casual readers” (when you said changing the look). I have fully redesigned my blog once and so far, I’ve only accumulated more readers than losing the early ones. I guess it all depends on changing for the better :D

  2. In fact i was talking about changing your theme constantly. I’ve encountered some webmasters that used to change their themes once per 2 weeks for instance and this confuzes the reader. Of course, changing once and even better when the website is still new is not a problem :)
