Speakup 150x150 Blog Comments or Forum Posts Bring More Traffic ?Sad or not truth, a product without proper marketing is a sitting duck waiting to be shot. If you’ve already created your website, you will have already noticed that getting traffic is by far the most challenging part of making a success out of your creation. In order to achieve it, you have to understand the market and be versatile and patient in the moves you make.

At that quest, you’ll actually be spending lots of time and very little money(unless you take up paid advertising). Therefore, every move you make really counts and you have to get some profit for the time you spend.

I’ve been lately reading a post by copyblogger discussing if blog commenting is a useful marketing strategy. Brian Clark correctly states that it is all about making relationships online. Moreover, he directly gives a value-time relationship between comment posting and the time you actually take to do it.

Blog Comments or Forum Posts ?

To be sincere I was always a bit doubtful on whether blog commenting is a good traffic strategy. On the contrary, i have found that participating in a couple of forums actively is a better way to attract visitors. It’s certain that online presence is good for you whatsoever, but forums are a bit more personal and most importantly, people revisit posts.

With comments on a blog, you are most times like a drop in the ocean. Most people who read the post that you commented on, most probably do not read many comments and in case they do, you really have to provoke them to click on your link. What’s even worse, people who view your comments do not remember about you. You’re just a passing voice that if interesting enough, you could get the click.

Don’t get me wrong. As long as it provides online presence in a good manner(the way copyblogger explains it), blog commenting is a good tool for marketing. However, if you take the time to build some reputation online, i would highly suggest that you do it on a forum.

The difference is that forums are far more personal and personal talks create relationships. While blog comments are a means to leave a one way shout and not interact much, forums are the exact opposite. People will read what you say in order to evaluate your sayings AND respond. Moreover, they also have another great advantage. They are there to solve problems and people love that. You would MUCH more likely visit a person’s website if you got important help by them(maybe an answer at a forum post you made) than if you saw a comment on a post by the same one.

Value Your Time Whatever You Choose

You may of course stick to what suits better for you. Be certain to have given a chance to both techniques though. Find out what you do and like better and stick to it. You will be spending time to do marketize, at least try to make this time as  well spent as possible.
