Are You Just an Expert On Your Website Topic ?
Posted by Spyros Panagiotopoulos in General Website Creation Tips
Getting information online is all about finding the expert. Everyone who is searching for answers on a certain topic, is in fact looking for that person who will be able to describe a solution. And if that happens, the visitor will most probably remember who was the kind person that gave them an insight, come back and tell it to friends sharing the same interests.
This is mainly the reason why it is really important to be knowledgeable on your niche. If this is not the truth, people will certainly find it out sooner or later and you will lose your credibility. When it comes to getting followers that will read your posts and come back to read more, you need to establish a good social connection with them, appear and be credible and knowledgeable too.
Establishing yourself as the authority on a certain topic is one of the most important paths on the road to website success and it is definately not easy to do so. However, bear in mind that even if your website/blog is 100% technical, you will always have to spice up your posts with parts of your personality. Do not just unleash lots of technical stuff but be humane too, show who you really are.
There are 3 very important qualities that every successful webmaster/writer possesses apart from technical knowledge and if you carefully notice them you’ll find them out :
1) They do not just describe facts or news, they comment and argue on them
If people only wanted to learn the news, newspapers would never exist. It would just be good enough to hear about them from another person or television for one or two minutes. Imagine that your country earns the World Cup. Everybody in the country knows about it but sports related newspapers sell more than usual. It should not make sence since the news is already known. However, people LOVE to be given different angles on a piece of information. They would love to see headlines that praise their country’s great soccer team. A headline like “World Cup Won By Our Country” is MUCH LESS effective than a headline like “Our Country Blew The World Apart”.
In short, DO NOT BE FLAT on your writing. Yes, people read blogs to learn stuff and they surely love your technical posts. However, it’s your personality that prevents them from reading other blogs regularly. Other websites or blogs may be having better information or webmasters more knowledgeable than you, but this is not when the game is played. When it comes to interacting with people, help them with style.
2) They have strong imagination
MILLIONS of websites are ALREADY there aiming at your niche. How can you not be just one of them ? Well, this is certainly an overall process that needs lots of things going but one of the most important ones is to use your imagination vividly. Visualize what your visitors need and push it one step further. DO NOT copy others. Certainly take some ideas but reflect them to your personality and elaborate to create your unique content. Do not describe the already known but bring on some new ideas to your niche.
3) They understand that the world could not care less whether they are experts or not
It’s time to put your ego to the test. Your visitors do not give a damn whether you are professional or expert on the topic you have chosen. Are you the best authority around ? Nobody cares. What people care about is getting their job done and if you are the person who can help them, be what you like, you are a treasure to them. It’s important that you are an expert on your niche. However, it’s not something that people want to know about or care about. It should just be one of your own important qualities helpful for providing answers, but not one that you want to brag about.
The bottom line is that it’s definately important to be knowledgeable on what you describe. Nevertheless, it’s your personality skills that make your writings a success or not. Always remember that humans read your posts and they like to read funny, challenging, argumentative and generally emotions related posts. After all, writing is just not enough when emotions are not involved in it, is it ?
