How to Choose the Appropriate Niche Market and Topic to Talk About

It is quite often for people who take up the task of creating their sites to be undecided about what to create a website about. It is a standard mistake that many decide to publish a site about a topic that they are not interested in or know about, but have heard or know that it is a hot one generating lots of traffic across the world wide web. Before making such a BAD decision, think about these two important facts:
1) Picking a niche(meaning a category, a topic) that you have no knowledge or interest about will only make you abandon your site very early. In order to have a website that will prospect in the future, you really have to be interested about it. Driving traffic and making it popular will require lots of work and commitment and this cannot be possible if you are not REALLY keen on the subject. Moreover, you need to have quite a bit of knowledge about it in order to be able to write QUALITY CONTENT. Not writing content that is appealing to others would mean that people would not want to be at your site and thus you’ll not get much success.
2) Picking a topic that is already widely talked about online means that you’ll have lots of competition. Always remember that for almost EVERY POSSIBLE TOPIC that you choose there will be competition already out there. However, picking a niche like “cars” is far more difficult to monetize than picking something like “sub woofers for jeep cars”. As you can understand, the second option will surely have far less competitors than the very wide first one. Therefore, you can far more easily establish yourself as a nice website on the topic and get considerable amounts of traffic.
You will surely be asking what are the money making topics online. Well, to be sincere, every topic that involves people buing things is a very good subject to talk about. Websites that talk about training pets would easily sell pet accessories, others about african masks could be a great way to sell masks online while not having so much competition too. The idea is that, as long as there is something to buy within the niche, you have a proper niche market target.
WHAT TOPICS TO AVOID?
By all means try to avoid being too generic or create an entertainment website with videos and such if you want to make money out of it. It’s great if you have a successful website about the best hotels of the world, but remember that getting to the “successful” point on such an antagonistic field is VERY VERY difficult if not impossible. Established hotel-related companies already PAY MUCH in order to be the most found hotel repositories and unless you have the budget to compete with, it’s always better to avoid an impact. Instead, try to create a website about hotel resorts of a certain place or town.
Entertainment sites are somehow easy to evolve and get traffic at. People like watching funny videos, reading funny stories and generally have a good laugh. That is good if you want to have a successful website, but not that good if you want to make money out of it. In order to make money, remember that you need to TARGET ACTIVE BUYERS. People who come to funny websites most often stumble upon it or are referred by friends and search engines. However, they are not that interested in funny things in order to buy related things. On the contrary, a hotel resort website on a certain city is already a selling spot. Someone enters such a site, BECAUSE HE/SHE WANTS TO TRAVEL. Why else would someone visit a hotels related site? This means that a marketing opportunity is available there and this topic is nice to build a site on. On the other hand, watching a funny video does not inspire me to buy anything, does it for you? Moreover, there is not really any good advertising idea for such sites. You may have noticed that most times, any google adsense ads that appear at such sites are only VERY irrelevant to the website, mostly advertising health-issues, or browser games.
To sum up the important things on choosing your topic, remember:
- Pick a topic that you like talking about and have adequate knowledge of.
- DON’T be too generic, the more specific topic the better.
- DON’T pick entertainment and low marketing value topics IF you want to make money out of your site.
- Remember that for anything you choose THERE WILL BE COMPETITION. So try to keep it steady, have patience, go on with your site and if you follow the techniques you’ll read about here, i can guarantee that you’ll steadily earn more and more traffic and then be able to make money out of.
